About SlapCam
In one sentence
SlapCam is a camcorder for iPhone and iPad that films with the front and back cameras: cover the lens that's filming and it cuts to the other one, on the same tape.
Longer
SlapCam is a camcorder you can slap. Hit record and forget the screen: the app films with the front and back cameras, and when a palm, a pocket or a strap covers the lens that's filming, it cuts to the other camera and keeps rolling. An on-device Core ML model checks for a covered lens several times a second, and if both main cameras are covered it falls back to the ultra-wide. Switch the setting to pause instead, and a hand on the lens stops the tape.
Every cut is a clip on a tape-strip timeline. While paused, clips can be dragged into order or deleted, and SAVE merges them into one video in the Photos library, in its own album. Each clip is written to storage the moment it ends, so if the app closes mid-recording the tape comes back, ready to save.
The app looks like the hardware it's named after: black keys, a chrome record button, an amber tape counter and a VHS on-screen display. The scanlines stay in the viewfinder and are never recorded. There is no account and nothing is uploaded.
Features

- Reorder and delete clips, then save one seamless video to Photos
- Crash recovery: every clip is saved the moment it ends
- 720p, 1080p or 4K at 30 or 60 fps, microphone on or off
- VHS viewfinder that is never recorded, and an optional watermark
