Troubleshooting

It doesn't switch when I cover the lens

Check that Auto switching is on in Setup and that WHEN COVERED is set to SWITCH. Cover the lens that's filming completely, with a palm or a pocket. If it still waits too long, move the sensitivity towards Eager.

It switches when I don't want it to

Move the sensitivity in Setup towards Cautious, so it only switches when it's sure. Or turn Auto switching off.

The recording stopped

iOS stops the camera when the screen locks or you switch apps. Keep SlapCam open while you record. Your clips so far are kept: open the app again and the tape comes back paused.

I can't find my tapes

Saved tapes are in the Photos app, in an album called “Bodycam”. Tap TAPES in SlapCam to play them back. If the library is empty, allow Photos access for SlapCam in Settings.

4K or 60 fps isn't available

Some iPhones can't record every format with both cameras running. SlapCam then picks the closest format your device supports and updates the setting.

What does SlapCam actually do?

It's a camcorder app that films with your front and back cameras. Cover the lens that's filming and it cuts to the other one, or pauses if you prefer. Every cut is a clip, and SAVE turns them into one video in Photos.

How does it know the lens is covered?

An on-device model checks the cameras several times a second. Nothing leaves your iPhone. Set the sensitivity in Setup, from Eager to Cautious.

What if both cameras are covered?

If the main back and front cameras are both covered, SlapCam falls back to the ultra-wide and keeps rolling.

Does it record with the screen locked?

No. iOS stops the camera when the screen locks or you switch apps, so keep SlapCam open while you record.

Is switching instant on every iPhone?

It's instant on iPhones that can run both cameras at once. On other models the switch takes a moment.

What happens if the app closes mid-recording?

Each clip is written to storage the moment it ends. Open SlapCam again and your tape comes back paused, ready to save.

Where do my videos go?

Straight into your Photos library, in their own album. SlapCam has no account and uploads nothing.

Are the scanlines in my video?

No. The VHS look is only in the viewfinder, so your video stays clean. The SlapCam watermark on saved tapes can be turned off in Setup.

Requirements

iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or later. Switching between cameras is instant on devices that can run both cameras at once. SlapCam works offline and needs no account.
