Troubleshooting
A collection date is wrong for my street
Please email your postcode, the type of collection and the date. The dates come from ERZ's open data, so one report helps everyone in your area.
I don't get reminders
In the Recycling tab, turn on Remind me the evening before, then allow notifications for MiniZürich in the iOS Settings app. Reminders arrive at 19:00 the evening before each collection.
My address isn't found
Type the street and house number, for example “Limmatplatz 3”. Only addresses in the city of Zürich are included, not the surrounding municipalities.
I moved
Open the menu (•••) on the sheet and choose Change home address. You can add, change or remove your work address there too.
A shop's opening hours are wrong
Shop hours come from OpenStreetMap, where anyone can correct them. Or email the shop and its hours to support.
I don't see myself on the map
Tap the location button at the end of the filter row, and allow location access for MiniZürich (While Using the App) in the iOS Settings app.
The map stays empty
The map needs an internet connection. Your collection days, recycling points and timetable still work offline.
A widget shows “Open MiniZürich to set your home”
Open the app once after setting your home. The widgets refresh their pictures whenever you open the app.
Frequently asked questions
What does MiniZürich actually do?
It gathers what matters around your home in the city of Zürich: when your Züri-Sack, cardboard, paper and organic are collected, where to recycle, which shops are open and until when, the nearest toilets, parks and fountains, the next departures from your stop, tax deadlines and the coming holidays and traditions. Set your address once and it's all there, on a map of your street.
Which addresses does it cover?
Every address in the city of Zürich, about 56,700 of them. The search runs on your iPhone, even offline. Addresses in the surrounding municipalities aren't included.
Are the trams on the map live?
They run to the timetable. Zürich doesn't publish live vehicle positions, so the app places each tram, bus and train where the timetable says it should be. Tap a departure to load its live delay, and that vehicle moves to match.
Does it know when shops close?
For about 900 shops and markets, from OpenStreetMap. Each one shows whether it's open now and until when, and the app can remind you an hour before your shop closes. Hours can change, so check before you go.
What does it know about taxes?
The City of Zürich's deadlines for private persons: the tax return (31 March, extendable online), the direct federal tax and the state and city tax. It reminds you a week before and asks after the deadline whether you filed or extended. Your own letters have the final word.
Does it need my location?
No. Your home is the address you type. If you allow location, you'll see yourself on the map, which helps find the nearest shop or tram when you're out. The app doesn't store or send your position.
Can it show my way to work?
Yes. Add your work address and you'll see your next connections there, with live times.
When do reminders arrive?
At 19:00 the evening before each collection at your address: Züri-Sack, cardboard, paper and organic. Turn them on in the Recycling tab. Each notification has a Put it out button.
Where do the collection dates come from?
From ERZ's official collection calendar, published by the city of Zürich as open data. If a date looks wrong for your street, please report it through Support.
Does it need an internet connection?
Only for the map, the weather and live times. Addresses, collection days, recycling points, shops and places, and the timetable are built in and work offline; the map loads from Mapbox, the weather from Apple Weather, and live departures and delays need a connection.
Are there widgets?
Four, for the Home Screen and Lock Screen: Highlights, Collection, Mobile recycling point and Coming up. The larger ones also list what comes next.
Is it made by the city?
No. MiniZürich is an independent app by Marco Lüthi, built on open data. It isn't affiliated with Stadt Zürich, ERZ, VBZ or ZVV.
What language is it in?
English. Streets, stops and places keep their Zürich names, so they match the signs.
Requirements
iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or later. The map, the weather and live departures need an internet connection; addresses, collection days, recycling points, shops and places, and the timetable work offline.
