About MiniZürich

In one sentence

MiniZürich is a neighbourhood app for the city of Zürich: collection days with a reminder the evening before, open shops and places nearby, the next tram from your stop, tax deadlines and the coming holidays, all for your address.

Longer

MiniZürich gathers what matters around your home in the city of Zürich. Set your address once, and the app shows when your Züri-Sack, cardboard, paper and organic waste are collected, where to recycle, which shops nearby are open and until when, the nearest toilets, parks and fountains, the next departures from the nearest stop, tax deadlines and the holidays coming up. Every address in the city, about 56,700, is built in, so the search works offline.

Collection days come from ERZ's official calendar, published by the city as open data. A reminder arrives at 19:00 the evening before each collection, with a Put it out button. The Recycling tab lists the recycling points nearby and the mobile recycling point's next stops, and the calendar covers public holidays and Zürich's own traditions, from Sechseläuten to Knabenschiessen. The Nearby tab shows about 900 shops and markets with their opening hours, and the app can remind you an hour before your shop closes; the city's tax deadlines come with a reminder a week before. The map follows the real sun and weather, and on the day you'll see fireworks or the burning Böögg. Four widgets bring it to the Home Screen and Lock Screen.

The app needs no account. It knows where you live because you told it; showing your own position on the map is optional, and the app doesn't store or send it. Only a stop id goes out to fetch live departures and delays. MiniZürich is an independent app by Marco Lüthi, built on open data. It isn't affiliated with Stadt Zürich, ERZ, VBZ or ZVV.
