The dial doesn't follow when I turn

Tap plus first: the dial only follows your turn once a timer is being set. Lay your iPhone flat on a table and turn it slowly. Keep it away from magnets and metal, like a laptop or a phone case with a magnet, which can confuse the compass.

No alarm when time's up

59 min needs permission to schedule alarms. Allow it for 59 min in the iOS Settings app, then start a new timer.

The Scan button doesn't find the code

Allow Camera access for 59 min in the iOS Settings app. Hold the other phone's code inside the frame; in a dark room, tap the torch button.

A milestone disappeared

Milestones are removed when you turn the dial back past them, and each one goes once the countdown passes it. Add them while you turn the timer up.

What does 59 min actually do?

It's a visual timer for up to an hour. Instead of typing minutes, you tap plus and turn your iPhone: every six degrees is a minute. A red wedge shows the time left and shrinks back to zero as it runs down, like a kitchen timer.

How does it know how far I turn?

It follows your iPhone's compass heading, so the dial moves with the direction the top of your phone points. It works best with the phone lying flat on a table. It never asks for your location.

What are milestones?

While you set the timer, tap the dial to mark a moment, for example 10 minutes left. When the countdown gets there, an alarm tells you how many minutes are left. Tap a milestone's dot to remove it.

Will the alarm ring if I close the app?

Yes. 59 min schedules a system alarm, so it rings when time's up even if the app is closed or your iPhone is locked. While it runs, the countdown shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with a Stop button. Allow alarms when the app asks.

How do I share a timer?

While a timer runs, tap Share to show its QR code. On another iPhone, open 59 min, tap Scan and point the camera at the code. Both phones then count down to the same moment, milestones included. Handy for workshops and breakout sessions.

How do I cancel a timer?

Tap the centre of the dial, or give your iPhone a shake. While a timer runs, the screen stays awake.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up, and nothing you do in 59 min leaves your iPhone.
