Privacy Policy
Last updated
59 min works without an account and without an internet connection. Your timers stay on your iPhone, and the app sends nothing to the developer or anyone else. This policy explains what the app accesses and why.
In short
| What | Where it goes | Can the developer see it? |
|---|---|---|
| Your timers and milestones | Only on your device, and to iOS to schedule the alarms | No |
| Compass heading (how far you turn your phone) | Used live on your device, never stored or sent | No |
| Camera frames while you scan a QR code | Read on your device for the code, never stored or sent | No |
Who is responsible
59 min is developed by Marco Lüthi, the controller responsible for data processing under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Permissions the app asks for
- Alarms, so the end of a timer and its milestones can ring even when the app is closed. The alarms are scheduled by iOS on your device.
- Camera, only when you tap Scan, to read the QR code of a timer shared from another iPhone.
To follow how far you turn your phone, 59 min reads the compass heading through iOS Location Services, which is why iOS may show the location arrow while the app is open. The app does not ask for, receive or store your location. You can change each permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.
Your timers
A timer's end time and milestones are kept in the app's memory while it runs, and handed to iOS as alarms. While a timer runs, iOS shows its countdown on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. When you stop a timer from there, the app notes that on your device so it can stop the timer too. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Sharing a timer
When you tap Share, 59 min shows a QR code that contains the timer's end time and its milestones, nothing else. It is shown on your screen only; whoever scans it with 59 min gets the same countdown. When you scan a code, the camera image is analysed on your device to read it and is not saved.
Legal basis
Where the GDPR applies, the processing on your device is necessary to provide the features you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Camera and alarm access are based on your choice to grant them, which you can withdraw at any time in the iOS Settings app. Under the Swiss FADP, we process personal data only as described here and in line with its principles.
What 59 min does not do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No connection to the internet: the app has no servers to talk to.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone.
This website
This website is a static site without cookies, analytics or tracking. Fonts are served from this website itself, so your browser does not contact third-party font services. When you visit a page, the website's hosting provider (hosted in Switzerland or the EU) automatically records technical access data in server logs: your IP address, date and time, the requested page, referrer and browser type. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are deleted after a short period. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, where Apple's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to your personal data and to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. Because the apps store your data on your device and do not identify you, the developer usually holds no personal data about you. Most of it you can delete yourself by deleting the app.
To exercise your rights, email hi@luthi-mar.co. You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the data protection authority of your country.
International transfers
Apple may process data in the United States and other countries. Apple describes the safeguards it uses for these transfers, such as the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses, in its privacy policy.
Children
59 min is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the date at the top will change.
