About Recs
In one sentence
Recs is a record collection app for iPhone and iPad: scan the barcode on any LP, CD or cassette to file it in your crate, then play the album on its own deck, a turntable, a CD player or a tape deck.
Longer
Recs turns a record collection into something you can play. Point the iPhone's camera at the barcode on the back of an LP, CD or cassette, and the app finds the release with its cover, tracklist and label. Records without a barcode can be found by artist or album instead.
Each album then plays on the machine it was made for, streamed from Apple Music. Vinyl gets a turntable: drag the tonearm onto any groove, scratch to seek and flip the record to side B. CDs spin in a top-loading player with a glowing display, and cassettes play on a pocket tape deck whose reels wind as the side plays. The needle drop, the key clunk and the tape's whirr play on top of the music.
The crate shows every record as what it is: sleeves, jewel cases and tape cases. Scan a record in a shop and Recs says whether it's already in the crate, even as another edition or on another format, so collectors don't buy it twice. The crate and a wantlist sync through the user's own iCloud, with no account to create.
