Privacy Policy
Last updated
Peace keeps your Mac awake. It works without an account and contains no analytics. It only goes online to check a license key with Gumroad. This policy explains what the app does with your data and why.
In short
| What | Where it goes | Can the developer see it? |
|---|---|---|
| Whether you use the keyboard and mouse | Checked on your Mac, never stored | No |
| Camera image for Coast Clear Check | Analysed on your Mac, never stored | No |
| Settings and trial dates | Only on your Mac | No |
| License key | Checked with Gumroad, kept on your Mac | Only as part of your Gumroad order |
Who is responsible
Peace is developed by Marco Lüthi, the controller responsible for data processing under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Keyboard, mouse and cursor
To know when you have stepped away, Peace notices when you press a key or move the mouse, and restarts its Inactivity Timer. It does not read or record what you type. To play its game, it moves the cursor and clicks where the cursor is, and if you choose, it locks your screen. For this, macOS asks you to allow Peace under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring and Accessibility.
Camera
With your permission, Peace uses the camera for Coast Clear Check, which you can turn on in its menu. When the Inactivity Timer runs out, Peace looks at a low-resolution camera image and uses Apple's Vision framework on your Mac to check whether a face is in front of it. If there is, it waits; if not, it goes ahead. The images are not saved or sent anywhere. Peace also checks whether another app is using the camera, so it doesn't start during a video call. You can turn camera access off at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
Settings, trial and license
Peace stores its settings, the start and end of your free trial, a random identifier created on your Mac, and, once you activate it, your license key with the purchase details Gumroad returns for it (such as the email address and name of the order and the purchase date). All of this stays in the app's container on your Mac. Deleting the app and its container deletes it.
License check with Gumroad
When you enter a license key, and about once a day while the app is licensed, Peace sends the key and the product ID to Gumroad's license service (api.gumroad.com) to check that it is valid. Gumroad receives your IP address as part of the connection. Nothing else is sent, and the developer does not receive this check. Gumroad processes it under its own privacy policy: gumroad.com/privacy.
Download and payment
The free trial is downloaded from this website. If you buy a license on Gumroad, Gumroad processes your email address and payment details as the seller's platform. The developer receives the order details Gumroad shares with sellers, such as your email address, and uses them only to handle your order and answer your questions.
Legal basis
Where the GDPR applies, the processing described above is necessary to provide the app and your license (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Camera, Input Monitoring and Accessibility access are based on your choice to allow them, which you can withdraw at any time in System Settings. Under the Swiss FADP, we process personal data only as described here and in line with its principles.
What Peace does not do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No analytics or crash reporting.
- No recording or storing of camera images or keystrokes.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no selling or sharing of data.
This website
This website is a static site without cookies, analytics or tracking. Fonts are served from this website itself, so your browser does not contact third-party font services. When you visit a page, the website's hosting provider (hosted in Switzerland or the EU) automatically records technical access data in server logs: your IP address, date and time, the requested page, referrer and browser type. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are deleted after a short period. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, where Apple's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to your personal data and to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. Because the apps store your data on your device and do not identify you, the developer usually holds no personal data about you. Most of it you can delete yourself by deleting the app.
To exercise your rights, email hi@luthi-mar.co. You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the data protection authority of your country.
International transfers
Apple may process data in the United States and other countries. Apple describes the safeguards it uses for these transfers, such as the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses, in its privacy policy.
Children
Peace is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the date at the top will change.
